WHEN RESTLESSNESS REIGNS

WHEN RESTLESSNESS REIGNS

Amid the lockdown, it’s really natural to feel anxious, frightened and even bored. After all, you’re under house arrest for God knows how long.

On the contrary, this lockdown period is perceived as a wonderful time by those people who used to hate the monotonous routines of their life. But what about those who loved to go shopping, eating out and just going out for walks? They have become inevitably devoid of their ‘going out time’. Most of them were people who were always on the move, for it gave them the feeling that they were alive.

A while back, I had penned a poem, obviously unmindful of what was going to transpire but that which aptly reflects the plight and sentiments of these restless people.-

The convincing mood to wander

To the dark clouds did surrender.

A curse found its way through the mouth.

Anger enveloped me but I didn’t shout.

The sun rose and set. All day was a bore.

The soul wanted air, but was kept inside the door.

The heart ached for the freshness in the air.

For the lush-green landscape and its share

The eyes wandered as far as they could.

But could not perceive anything as good

The fingers fiddled with the lonesome pens.

The heart again ached as the clock struck ten.

Food was eaten with a distracted mind.

Nobody then seemed well and kind

The eyes were shut, but the mind was on.

The guilt of wasting a day gnawed upon.

So even if you feel miserable inside your houses, don’t move out unless the cause is of pressing significance. Staying inside the walls of our houses is apparently the best we can do to help the nation while the warriors are combating the deadly virus.

If you are feeling restless, channelize your energy to create something. Do some meditation or put some of your favourite music and dance in your room and enjoy the bliss that comes unasked.

For me, lockdown has played a positive role. I cherish writing stories and poems, dancing, doing online courses besides studies, spending time with my family and more importantly, with myself. This is a good time, if not the best, to analyse ourselves and our potentials. We have an unprecedented amount of time to vent out the thoughts that had so far remained obscure.

The lockdown can turn out to be stressful for many. But if we want, we can make stress and restlessness work for us.

Always remember, behind every dark cloud, there is an ever shining sun. Just be patient; the storm will definitely pass.
